A supernatural drama from 1998 the Quiet was set in the small town of Cobbler Lake. After an earthquake tremor an ancient evil is awakened. Soon people are found dead, a look of utter surprise on their face.
The most dangerous aspect of this threat is they are completely silent, earning them the name ‘The Quiet’. The town’s people struggle to continue their normal lives, never knowing when The Quiet might claim them.
The Quiet became known for their sudden shocks. A character could be in the middle of scene, for example confessing their love for each other or even just restocking the general store when the supernatural menace would kill without warning, abruptly ending several storylines.
Struggling against the Quiet was a group of plucky teenagers. There was the nerdy book worm Colette (played by Alison Hammer), the brash football player Chad (played by Mike Milton) and their leader Donald (played by Sebastian Zomore) who had the advantage of being deaf and thus used to not hearing the things that wanted to hurt him.
The series lasted one season as the over zealous writers had managed to kill most of the main cast and the entire supporting cast. The final episode showed that Cobbler Lake was now a ghost town, the wind the only noise in the streets.
In the last scene Colette asks “Shhh, did you hear that?”
To which Donald replied “No.”
The end credits played over complete silence.

TRIVIA:
The eerie sound effect of the silent The Quiet was created by recording an empty room.
Sebastian Zomore was able to hear and was also extremely nervous. He can often be seen to jump at the slightest sound despite the script obviously indicating that he is at peace and unaware of the large explosion that just went off behind him.

The rapid reduction of cast was due to the director having a very short temper. When ever he was displeased with an actor’s performance he would yell “That’s it, the Quiet got you”.
The Quiet came under fire for perpetrating several false hoods regarding the deaf. Such false statements included the deaf can’t whistle, they feed on the souls of others and they have no reflection.
